I sought for an Inn, so why the Stable Lord?
What would it be like if each of us were one hundred percent in the
will of God? Surely everything should be going right for us and the
desires of our hearts all being answered, or so one would think? But
if that were so, then let’s go a little deeper to examine our
Let’s consider one woman in particular, Mary the Mother of Jesus.
She was going to be the person that would give birth to God upon the
earth. If anyone should have had the personal desires of her heart
answered surely it should have been her!
The Holy Spirit guided the prophet Isaiah’s hand as he wrote…
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
That Scripture was written hundreds of years before Mary would
become pregnant. The Spirit of God allowed Isaiah to look through time
and like many other prophets he wrote of our Lord’s coming.
As a child, Mary would have been taught the Torah by her parents.
She would have learnt of the God that could provide food for about
three million people on a daily basis in the midst of a wilderness,
open up a Red Sea approximately three miles, brought down impregnable
city walls and against overwhelming odds a few defeated massive
armies. Surely a woman conceiving a child and still remaining a virgin
could be another impossibility of this God that she believed in –
Imagine the day when she found out it would be her!!!
Knock, knock! The door of Mary’s life had just been visited by
angel Gabriel head of communications for ‘Heavenly Post! “I have a
message from Heaven… “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will
conceive and give birth to God upon this earth!”
The prophecies and the stories Mary’s parents taught her now
started to go from “Maybe someday - to today!” This present day
prophecy for Mary was going to be fulfilled! A woman will remain a
virgin and conceive, but how? That was the only question Mary had,
“How could this happen since I know no man?”
Like Mary, if you are seeking understanding, never be in fear to
ask questions. If it is good enough for Mary to ask God questions, it
is good enough for us! Remember, a question is not a doubt. Questions
answered, is understanding! Gabriel answered Mary, “The Holy Spirit
shall come upon you and you shall conceive!”
Our response should be the same as hers, when God speaks, “Lord, be
it unto me according to thy word!”
The word was quickened and Mary conceived!
The Roman Empire had introduced census every seven years and God
had timed the birth of Christ that as one cycle ended in the natural a
spiritual one would begin. Joseph escorted Mary over several days
nearly eighty miles on a mule to his home town of Bethlehem to sign
the census and lodging in the inn would at least be a place of rest
and comfort after such a journey.
According to the Bible Mary and Joseph could not find room in the
inn. (Luke 2:7) Surely of all the people in the world that should have
had their hearts desires take place, it should have been this couple,
but it was not to be! Why?
For us to see Christ who is the Anointed One birthed in our lives,
everything must be stripped away to make way for His presence.
The Inn speaks of what we deem as needful for the anointing to be
birthed in us. It’s a place of security, access to ‘things,’ that make
us feel secure and people around to affirm us. It is what we believe
God needs to have around us for Him to flow through us.
If we are seeking the anointing birthed in our lives then take note
of that which we deem as important, God quite often strips away!
Everything that we deem as security for us to operate in Him, He will
leave us with one supreme security – The Anointing!
When Mary said “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me
according to thy word.” (Luke 1:38) She submitted herself to His
Lordship! Like Mary, if we make Him Lord He will take us back to the
original path that Adam walked in. Nothing was between Adam and His
relationship with God and nothing will be between us and God! Are we
interested in that type of relationship?
What is it that’s being stripped away from our thinking? Is our
dependency related to that of a building, the need for music, large
gatherings of people or appraisal from man? This and much more is the
The Stable represented the original experience that each of us can
have in God – it is the alternative of the Inn. Nothing that we deem
important will be found there except but one thing - the birthing of
Christ (Anointing) through our life!
The Stable removes our dependency on man-made things and man-made
ideas of birthing God in our lives. It causes us to realize that it is
not a building that we need but an appointed birthing place. It will
never be the luxury of the flesh that will lead us to the Stable but
When we leave the Stable nothing is in our minds to talk about
other than that which has been birthed through us. It’s the place
where our focus of what we used to think was important is no longer.
When Mary prayed, “According to your will be it unto me Lord!” She
declared Lordship over her life! In submitting, she became governed by
her Lord who would lead her to a place that she would be forever
thankful - The Stable!
Never be annoyed when the door of the Inn is closing or has closed
on our life. Mary was one hundred percent in the will of God when the
door of the Inn was closed. When God closes a door, it’s because
something greater than any man can do is about to give birth through
us in the Stable.
When we come out of the Stable the only focus we will have – is
that which was birthed out of us! Have we found our Stable?
